Story

Against an expansive ground of warm ochre and mineral gold — a surface worked, worn, and luminous as ancient stone — an intricate arrangement of fractured geometric forms builds a composition of extraordinary chromatic density. Deep carmines, mineral greens, oxidized blues, and earth tones are embedded within heavily worked plaster, each colour existing within the body of the material rather than resting upon it.

Ancient Fields evokes the sensation of a place half-remembered: part architectural plan, part aerial landscape, part constructed memory. The forms are precise yet organic, structured yet fluid — disciplined geometry yielding at its edges to the logic of the material itself. The ochre ground is not neutral; it breathes through the composition, surfacing between forms and unifying the whole with warmth and depth.

Up close, the surface reveals mineral detail — fine aggregates, subtle relief, tonal transitions that shift with every change in viewing distance and light. From across a room, the work resolves into a commanding presence: complex without being restless, rich without spectacle. A painting that rewards sustained looking.
